少女革命ウテナ!
The "Adolescence Mokushiroku" movie (disc 5 in this set) contains English subtitles and an English dub. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, and it's a nice addition for foreign fans that would like to watch the movie with the remastered video and 5.1 audio. The movie sounds much better with the 5.1 track (just listen to the opening scene with the bells ringing), but the original 2.0 audio is also included in case that's your preference.
The TV episodes are not subtitled, but the picture has been remastered (colors especially look better than before) and the audio has been upgraded to 5.1. Unfortunately, the video exhibits noticeable aliasing, which means you'll see some jagged lines that should be smooth. It's a shame about the aliasing, because the picture looks very good otherwise. I appreciated the "skip to a duel" feature.
Disc 6 is devoted to extras. Most of these were on the LD releases, like the musical, the Okui Masami PV, the duel song karaoke, and the interviews with Ikuhara and the seiyuu for Utena and Anthy. One new feature is an art board slideshow set to tracks from the OST.
The packaging of this DVD-BOX is excellent. A copy of the "Adolescence Mokushiroku" movie pamphlet is included as well as a booklet with art boards, genga (key animation sketches), and interviews. The outer box is wider than a standard DVD case and the artwork is actually one big obi (this box has a nude Utena and Anthy on the front).
This set is probably a little overpriced, but it is a limited edition and it is obvious that a lot of care went into it. I hope there will be a BD version soon, hopefully without the aliasing problem. I also would like to see the English subtitles carried over to the eventual BD release.
何度でも観たい
最初に観たのは中学生だったと思います。
当時は「ぶっ飛んだアニメだなー」と思いながらぶっ飛び具合を楽しんで観てました。
でも大人になってから観ると、その奥深さに驚きました。
ぶっ飛び具合も楽しんでますが。
人生でこんなに繰り返し観るアニメはウテナだけです。
下巻は映画も入ってます。
映画はアニメ版のテーマをわかりやすくまとめたような内容になってますので
映画から観ても楽しめるかと思います。買うだけ無駄でした…
作品自体は星5、ディスク自体は星3(画像は綺麗ですが、音声をステレオ版を入れて欲しかった。ファンは独身貴族だけではありません。家族と住んでいる人や壁の薄いアパートに住んでる人は、スピーカーなんて使えません。万人向けに作って下さい。)そして、パッケージは星1です。2枚重ねて収納してあるので、下のディスクを取り出すには、上をどかさなきゃいけない…。そして、何番のディスクに何話とサブタイトルが入っているのか、ディスクにのっていないので、ブックレットをひっぱりださなきゃならない。凄く不便で、使いにくいです。実用性を欠き、見た目を重視した作りには腹がたってきます。単巻も、持ってますが、それは、何回も見てます。BOX版は、一度目を通したきり。前編で使いにくいとの声があり、後編は、発売延期になったので、使いにくいパッケージを変えてくれるかと期待していましたが、ありませんでした。購買者の意見なんか、聞かない会社なんですね。上巻を見た時、下巻は、キャンセルすべきでした。それと、私は、劇場版が好きじゃないので、下巻に入れないで欲しかったです。TV版のみの1BOXにして欲しかったです。
付け足します。何故、下巻に対して評価が厳しいのかというと、BOX絵がウテナとアンシーの裸なのが嫌だからです。そういえば、LDのジャケット絵もHっぽくて嫌でした。
